MATTHEW SWEET
Fifth GRADE TEACHER
Matthew Sweet was born and raised in Corning, NY. After graduating from high school, Matt moved to Lenox, MA to study Shakespeare. The following fall Matt began his studies at Marymount Manhattan College where he earned a BFA in acting. He spent a number of years performing, but when he was connected to a youth sports organization (Kate Tempesta’s Urban Golf Academy), he discovered his passion for working with and teaching children. Over the course of five years, Matt rose from an assistant, part-time instructor to the Director of Operations for the company. During this time, Matt was also accepted into Hunter College where he pursued a Masters in Early Childhood Education. His studies culminated in a student teaching opportunity at PS 527. Matt then transitioned to a long-term substitute role with the school, teaching in both 5th and 4th grades, and is now starting his sixth year as a headteacher in the fifth grade. Matt is devoted to the whole child approach to teaching/learning and partnering with students to form unique, individualized bonds. He cannot believe his good fortune to be working with such a remarkable school, and partnering with such a talented 4th-grade teaching team. He looks forward to working with students, families, and staff throughout the 2023-2024 school year.
