EMMA NELSON

KINDERGARTEN TEACHER

Emma Nelson is honored to teach kindergarten at P.S. 527, The East Side School for Social Action. Born and raised in Long Island, she is proud of her Puerto Rican and Trinidadian heritage and credits her large, close-knit family for sparking her love of caring for children. From a young age, Emma enjoyed babysitting and creating fun, nurturing experiences for kids, which inspired her to later pursue a career in education.

While attending Hunter College, Emma initially began with a different major, but a growing interest in child development and early learning led her to switch paths and discover her true passion—teaching. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education and gained valuable experience through student teaching in New York City public schools, as well as working at Manhattan Schoolhouse during her college years.

In the 2024–2025 school year, Emma joined the P.S. 527 community as a kindergarten teaching assistant. She quickly connected with students, families, and staff, and her enthusiasm for learning and ability to foster a warm classroom environment made her a beloved part of the school. This year, she is thrilled to step into the role of kindergarten teacher, where she will continue to support her students’ academic growth, social-emotional development, and love of learning.

Emma recently got married in July and now lives in Brooklyn with her husband. She is excited to create a classroom where every child feels valued and inspired. Emma looks forward to an amazing school year filled with curiosity, growth, and joy!
