AMY GANG

THIRD GRADE TEACHER

Amy grew up in Merrick, NY and now resides in NYC. She received her B.S. in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from Pennsylvania State University. She then attended Hunter College, and received her M.S. in Special Education. Amy started working at PS 325 in Hamilton Heights as a 1st grade teacher and has now been teaching kindergarten at PS 527 since 2014. Amy grew up singing and acting and initially majored in Theater. A year into school, Amy realized that her greatest passion was working with children and decided that she wanted to become a teacher. Amy’s mother was a principal in Merrick, and her whole family works with children in schools and in summer camps. Amy spent her summers growing up at Tyler Hill, a sleep-away camp in Pennsylvania. Amy became a member of Tyler Hill’s leadership team, working with and supervising children and staff. It was at camp that Amy learned how to teach children the skills of making and keeping friends, while building their self-esteem, self-confidence, and resilience. Being a role-model and mentor for her campers and staff has been such a rewarding experience. Amy wants to continue to support children in seeing their full potential and allowing them to be creative and flexible thinkers in a warm, caring, and risk free environment. Amy strongly believes in teaching the ‘whole child’. She is very personable and gets to know her students individually, forming a unique relationship with each and every child. Amy feels so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful school community and looks forward to working with the students, families, and staff in the upcoming school year.
