Susan O’Reilly is delighted for her third year at PS 527! Susan loves science. She has her MSEd in Childhood Education with a Specialization in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at Hunter College. Susan also enjoys painting, hiking, concerts, and reading.

Susan’s career in education began in Westchester County, New York. In high school, Susan worked after school as an assistant teacher at a local day care center. When Susan was working in the Pre-K classroom, she discovered that she had a passion for teaching. Susan went to SUNY Oneonta and graduated with a B.S. in Childhood Education.

After Susan graduated from college, she took a position at Casa Esperanza Montessori Charter School in Raleigh, North Carolina. Susan taught for two years as a lead teacher of a multi-age classroom of 1st and 2nd graders. As Susan was teaching in North Carolina, she realized that she especially loved to teach science. Science had always been her favorite subject growing up and once she started teaching, she knew that she should become an elementary school science teacher. Susan then moved back to her home state of New York and taught for two years as a K-2 science teacher at Future Leaders Institute Charter School in Harlem.

Susan works very hard to help foster a love of science in the elementary grades through engaging inquiry-based units. She cannot wait to share her passion for the subject with the students of PS 527 this school year!
