Nana Evans’ story at PS 527 is one of “climbing the ladder!” Nana was a substitute teacher during the first year of PS 527 and then became an assistant teacher in September 2013. In September 2014, Nana became a Head Kindergarten teacher and looks forward to her fifth year in that role during the 2018-2019 school year!
Traveling with friends and family is amongst the things that Nana enjoys doing the most. She loves excursions and adventures both abroad and locally. Tasting exotic food and meeting new people are also experiences that she appreciates and has done since her childhood. As a first generation American born to Ghanaian parents, Nana has had the privilege of living on three continents and looks forward to traveling to Asia and South America in the near future.
Poetry and music are passions of hers that she purses relentlessly. She often attends open mic nights around the city so do not be surprised to see her performing at your local karaoke bar!
As a long-time resident of Yorkville, she is familiar with the neighborhood and often encounters her students and their parents at local shops and eateries. Nana always has a kind word, useful information and a smile for them. During the summer season she works as a part-time real estate agent.
A parent of two young boys, Nana's parental guidance has proven to be an asset to both students and parents. Nana understands the different stages of child development, and what it means to nurture growth in children and help them learn and succeed.
Her educational philosophy is one that centers around knowledge of the whole child and her desire to expose students to the wealth of educational experiences New York City has to offer. Moreover, she wants to prepare her students to feel comfortable in the world they live in. Nana looks forward to starting the students of PS 527 on a path to success in the 2018-2019 school year!
